Chinese Pixiu Hand-Carved Chimera Statuette

Pixiu is a Chinese mythical hybrid creature, misattributed to the Greek word "chimera" in the Western world, and considered a powerful protector of the practitioners of feng shui.

Chinese artisans are well knowned for the precision and extreme detailing they put into woodcarving. They favor the boxwood to create amazing artworks.

Buxus is a genus of about 70 species, generally small trees or bushes, common names include box or boxwood. Owing to its fine grain it is a good wood for fine wood carving, although  limited by the small sizes available. It is also resistant to splitting and chipping.
