Niña con Tortugas Original Painting
From Venezuelan artist Yumira Garban, here is a rare and fascinating portray of a Yanomami girl, inspired by the artist's concerns for these ethnic groups currently in danger of extinction: The cry of a dying race...
The Yanomami are approximately 35,000 indigenous people who live in some 200–250 villages in the Amazon rainforest on the border between Venezuela and Brazil,
The Yanomami are known as hunters, fishers, and horticulturists. The Yanomami communities believe in the spirit of the forest that gives them everything they need and they try to live in harmony with the nature, by taking only the minimum so as not to harm it and preserve it.
Mining, ranching and lack of care threaten the Yanomami. Today, they are fighting for the government's aid to protect them from criminal invasions, attacks and disease.
