Chinese artisans are well knowned for the precision and extreme detailing they put into woodcarving. They favor the boxwood to create amazing artworks.

Buxus is a genus of about 70 species, generally small trees or bushes, common names include box or boxwood. Owing to its fine grain it is a good wood for fine wood carving, although  limited by the small sizes available. It is also resistant to splitting and chipping.
