From India, artist Chithra Menon presents this beautiful acrylic on canvas: Theyyam is a popular ritual form of workship in Kerala, India, predominently in the Kollathnadu area consisting of Kasargod, Kannur, Wayanad districts and also South Canara and Kodagu of Karnataka as a living cult with several thousand old traditions, rituals and customs.
The performer of Theyyam belongs to lower caste community, and have a important position in Theyyam. The people of these district consider Theyyam itself as a channel to a God and they thus seek blessing from Theyyam
There are approximately 400 types of Theyyam. There are different patterns of face painting. Mostly primary and secondary colors are applied with contrast with face painting . Orange color is mainly used for Theyyam.
